Why this role matters to Designer Group 

As part our  of an exciting company expansion project, Designer Group are seeking a Contracts Manager to join our substantial Operations team.

We have a healthy workbook of large projects in the pipeline, so this is an extremely exciting time to join Designer Group.

As Contracts Manager you will be leading project operations across various contracts that run concurrently.  Operating to a standard, reflecting our Company Values, you will be responsible to ensure the projects are delivered on time, on budget, to the highest quality standards and exceeding client’s expectations. Your role will involve the management of the “project diamond”, consisting of senior project personnel, (Site Managers, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors and other departmental leads) in the delivery of the contracts under your control.

Our Projects

Designer Group are involved in projects from all disciplines across multiple regions. Some of our current live projects include:

• Forensic Science Laboratory – Full M&E installation of laboratories, clean rooms and amenity spaces.
• Trinity E3 Learning Centre – Full M&E installation of laboratories, workshops, teaching spaces and amenity spaces.
• Diageo Biomass Plants – Full M&E, Process and CSA design and build. Installation included the biomass boilers, ESP’s, fuel handling, CSA and building services. Regions Include: Kenya, Uganda and Mexico.

Your Team

As the mechanical engineering manager, you will be responsible for managing a mechanical team that consists of 10 mechanical engineers. The team structure includes senior level, intermediate level and graduate level. The mechanical engineers are embedded in our construction team diamond structure. Collaboration with the senior project management team is key for successful delivery of our landmark projects.

Roles & responsibilities

• Reporting to an Operations Director, the key responsibilities of this role include:
• Contribute to the delivery of our 2025 strategy through the achievement of key group and personal objectives.
• Involvement in Estimation preparations and bids, directly supporting the Head of Estimation.
• Design development, value engineering, pre and post contract commencement.
• Ensure the highest levels of commercial management are adhered too and commercial targets are achieved while working in conjunction with Project QS.
• Manage all aspects of procurement, including subcontractors and plant/equipment.
• Oversee the contracting process with chosen sub-contractors/specialists and ensure works are carried out correctly and per contract and relevant specifications.
• Closely monitor the usage of materials and resources on projects.
• Ensure weekly progress reports are issued, including, RFI’s, procurement schedules, technical submittals, programme updates, identification of critical issues specific to the projects.
• Hold regular meetings with both the design team and sub-contractors.
• Oversee and execute the effective control and use of both labour and materials on projects.
• Be responsible for implementing company Health and Safety Procedures and reporting to the Company’s Health and Safety Manager.
• Actively engage in Business Development to obtain future opportunities for the company.
• Maintain and build upon good working relationships with internal & external stakeholders of the business.

Your education & experience

• Ideally 8-10 years’ experience in M&E background.
• A proven record of accomplishment in quality project delivery
• Third Level Degree desirable, not essential.
• Ability to demonstrate leadership, while building strong working relationships.
• Collaborative stakeholder management.
• People management experience, with emphasis on quality talent and performance management.
• Good interpersonal & written communication skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
