Project Detail:
Dublin Castle, Dame Street, Dublin
Dublin Castle is a Designer Group showcase heritage project. The project presented rare challenges as this tourist attraction remained fully functional and open to the public while the works were carried out. The works were required to prepare the building for the
European Presidency. Tour groups were in close proximity to the restoration works, this necessitated careful scheduling and coordination with the Castle Authorities. This listed building contains valuable artwork and artifacts. Antique chandeliers were removed, rewired, restored and in some cases retro-fitted with Lux Lift chandelier hoists to allow for ease of maintenance. The majority of the lights were rewired to a static inverter emergency lighting system enabling the building to maintain its character but to conform to current electrical regulations.
Designer Group installed an extensive wireless fire alarm system within the heritage areas of the Castle and maintained the existing fire alarm network to ensure castle staff and tour group activities were monitored at all times. Designer Group managed and controlled the sensitive builder’s works element associated with this high profile Heritage project in conjunction with the OPW architectural team.
