What better day than Blue Monday to launch our new Wellbeing and Wellness Committee – DG Holistic. The third Monday of every January is dubbed ‘Blue Monday’, as it is said to be the most depressing day of the year, calculated by a combination of weather conditions, post Christmas spending and New Year resolutions having fallen by the wayside.

Our group of DG Holistic committee volunteers have pledged to run campaigns and activities that encourage a working environment that is supportive of living a healthy lifestyle and will help our people to be more aware, motivated, and skilled around life decisions that increase their own and others’ wellbeing.

DG Holistic is passionate about removing the stigma that is associated with mental health issues, and is at the forefront of the fight to make it commonplace for everyone to say, “I’m struggling” in the workplace, without fear.

The UK’s Mental Health Foundation suggests that perhaps the true meaning of ‘Blue Monday’ is that we all have mental health, whether it be good, bad or fluctuating, and that there are steps that we can all take every day of the year to try and protect it.

Why Wellbeing?

The construction industry can be a challenging workplace. Acknowledging and addressing the factors which affect people’s wellbeing at work is something which Designer Group is deeply committed to. Promoting wellbeing can help prevent stress and create positive working environments where individuals and organisations can thrive. Good health and wellbeing can be a core enabler of employee engagement and organisation performance, and Designer Group has made it a priority to support all our staff with their overall health and wellbeing.

Why Holistic?

A holistic approach means providing support that looks at the whole person, not just their mental health needs. The support should also consider their physical, emotional, social, and environmental wellbeing.

Each person will have a different experience of mental wellbeing and a different path to recovery that is influenced by their age. gender, culture, heritage, language. Faith, relationship status and life experience. A holistic approach focuses on a person’s whole wellness and is characterised by the belief that all aspects of being alive are intimately interconnected.

We will keep you regularly updated on what our Holistic Committee are up to. You won’t miss any updates if you keep your eyes peeled for our new Holistic logo!
