Our 2020 team of Designer Group Apprentices announced finalists
We are so proud to announce that our apprentice team of 2020 are selected as Finalists for Ireland’s Generation Apprenticeship Competition. The competition celebrates the best teamwork, leadership, creativity, and problem-solving skills of Ireland’s apprentices, as well as highlighting the importance and value of apprenticeships.
Reaching the final of this competition is not just a recognition of the skills and workmanship of each apprentice, but also their initiative, imagination and ambition. These are the qualities that make great things happen and lead to outstanding careers.
Pat O’Doherty, Apprenticeship Council Chairman and Chief Executive ESB
I am delighted to congratulate the finalists of the 2020 Generation Apprenticeship competition. Across a range of categories, these exceptional teams shine a light on the calibre of Ireland’s apprentices – people of different ages, genders and backgrounds, career changers and school leavers, who are forging brilliant careers for themselves. Thank you to all involved in the competition. Let’s keep going for gold in our efforts to promote apprenticeship as a brilliant option.
Minister for Further & Higher Education, Research, Innovation & Science Simon Harris TD announces winners of the ESB and CIF sponsored Generation Apprenticeship competition
The team took on the challenge to design, engineer and sculpt a three-dimensional letter ‘A’ using the materials/equipment/tools of their industry. The letter “A” represents the Generation Apprenticeship Competition icon. As well as our hard-working team producing a sculpture, they also had to produce a competition entry showcase video highlighting the key themes of recycling and sustainability in construction. Recognising their skills, workmanship, imagination and ambition, their sculpture was then showcased by our apprentice team to over 500 guests at a high-profile exhibition.
Speaking at the event, Minister Mitchell O’Connor TD said:
In Ireland, apprenticeship is a skill multiplier with strong roots and a bright future. Over 16,500 people are currently undertaking an apprenticeship in many different industries. From electrical, construction and engineering roles to information technology and financial services, our apprentices are leading with imagination, creativity, and teamwork. The Generation Apprenticeship competition provides a fantastic showcase for apprenticeship as a route to skills development in 21st Century Ireland.
