We are proud to announce the completion of one of our most prestigious projects, Fairfield Halls, Croydon.
Known as South London’s largest Arts Center, the iconic building has been hosting performances, concerts and conferences since 1962. The venue is a primary hub for entertainment, providing a theatre, gallery and a large concert hall which has been regularly used for BBC television, radio and orchestral recordings. Located at the heart of Croydon, Fairfield Halls has strong, longstanding ties with the entire community, with the venue being open to community groups, associations and local business. Their aim is to ensure every child in the borough not only has the opportunity to see a live performance, but has the chance to take part in one too.
In 2018, Fairfield Halls required a full refurbishment, modernisation and extension. Needing a high-quality and reputable company to execute the modernisation of their state-of-the-art venue, Designer Group were appointed to deliver the Mechanical & Electrical services package. Worth £18m, the project included the redevelopment and transformation of the world-renowned Phoenix Concert Hall and the iconic Ashcroft Playhouse. An important aspect of this project was to maintain the legacy and heritage of each individual area; for Phoenix Concert Hall, we retained the acoustic integrity of the 1,800 seat concert hall whilst fully refurbishing the audience section to include new seating and modernised backstage and servicing areas. New flexible performance and arts spaces within the rest of venue, included The Recreational, Savvy Studio and John Whitgift Community Cube.
The project commenced in April 2018, and lasted for 56 weeks. We are very proud of the tremendous work of the Designer Group team. This was a fantastic project and we are privileged to be a part of Fairfield history.
