At Designer Group we are passionate about supporting women in construction and encouraging them to join our industry. Providing bespoke support to women wishing to work in the construction industry along with recruiting highly motivated, trained women helps to reduce skills gaps and create a more gender-equal workforce.
As part of our ongoing diversity and inclusion pledge with The Construction Industry Federation (CIF), on International Women’s Day back in March, our team promised to donate sanitary products to a very important charity – The Homeless Period Ireland.
Period poverty is a global issue affecting women and girls who don’t have access to safe, hygienic sanitary products, and/or who are unable to manage their periods with dignity, sometimes due to community stigma and sanction. This is not just a potential health risk – it can also mean women and girls’ education, well-being, and sometimes entire lives are affected.
After months of collecting, this week, which also coincides with International Women in Engineering Day, our HR team delivered our donation. The Homeless Period commends the amazing work that every organisation working with women provides and supports this work by offering to assist with donations of period products for those unable to purchase themselves.
For all women in construction, and across the world, we know this problem doesn’t bear thinking about.
